Cerebral perfusion imaging using EIT
نویسندگان
چکیده
Imaging of cerbral perfusion is understood to provide rich information on cerebral processes. This study explores whether EIT is able to image perfusion in the brain. In a single rat, a bolus of hypertonic saline was introduced into an arterial catheter during two activity states, and EIT images reconstructed. Results suggest that changes in perfusion pattern are visible in EIT images.

Applications of Electrical Impedance Tomography in Neurology
Introduction: Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a non-invasive technique utilized in various medical applications, including brain imaging and other neurological diseases. Recognizing the physiological and anatomical characteristics of organs based on their electrical properties is one of the main applications of EIT, as each variety of tissue structure has its own electrical characteris...
متن کاملThe role of relative cerebral blood volume obtained from Perfusion Weighted Imaging-MRI in glioma tumor grading before surgery
Introduction: Glioma is the most common type of brain malignancy among adults. Treatment for this type of tumor involves surgery, radiotherapy, and in higher grades, including chemotherapy. The precise grading of the tumor is critical for treatment planning and prognosis determining. Considering the possibility of problems such as errors in tissue sampling during surgery, as we...
متن کاملFuzzy Modeling of Electrical Impedance Tomography Image of the Lungs
Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is a functional imaging method that is being developed for bedside use in critical care medicine. Aiming at improving the chest anatomical resolution of EIT images we developed a fuzzy model based on EIT’s high temporal resolution and the functional information contained in the pulmonary perfusion and ventilation signals. EIT data from an experimental anima...
متن کاملUse of Electrical Impedance Tomography to Monitor Regional Cerebral Edema during Clinical Dehydration Treatment
OBJECTIVE Variations of conductive fluid content in brain tissue (e.g. cerebral edema) change tissue impedance and can potentially be measured by Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT), an emerging medical imaging technique. The objective of this work is to establish the feasibility of using EIT as an imaging tool for monitoring brain fluid content. DESIGN a prospective study. SETTING In thi...
متن کاملRegional lung perfusion estimated by electrical impedance tomography in a piglet model of lung collapse.
The assessment of the regional match between alveolar ventilation and perfusion in critically ill patients requires simultaneous measurements of both parameters. Ideally, assessment of lung perfusion should be performed in real-time with an imaging technology that provides, through fast acquisition of sequential images, information about the regional dynamics or regional kinetics of an appropri...
